At Baby Caravan, we do things differently. We’re a referral-based doula collective, rather than a doula agency, serving families across the New York City metro area. That means our role is to introduce you to independent birth and postpartum doulas who align with your needs, values, and preferences.
Every doula in our collective has their own business and independent practice. They set their own rates, define their services, and bring a personalized approach to their work. Whether you're seeking birth, daytime postpartum, or overnight postpartum support, you’ll be able to choose a doula whose practice feels right for you.
Our matching service is completely free for families. You’re never charged to explore your options. Once you’ve connected with your doula, you’ll work with them directly, signing contracts, discussing rates, and building your relationship with no middleman involved.
By supporting a collective model, Baby Caravan ensures that both families and doulas thrive while prioritizing flexibility, transparency, and trust at the core of every connection.

A doula is a trained professional who provides non-medical physical, emotional, and informational support during pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum period.
A birth doula supports you first during pregnancy to get to know you, build rapport and learn what’s important to you going into labor. During labor and delivery your doula supports you from early contractions via the phone, to meeting you in person at your home or hospital and through the first hours after birth.
A postpartum doula supports you after your baby arrives, helping with newborn care, infant feeding, birth recovery, and adjusting to life as a new family. Postpartum doulas are primary educators helping you learn the many “firsts” of new parenthood. Many families choose to work with both.
After you complete our inquiry form, our team reviews your needs, preferences, due date, and location. We hand-select two to three doulas from our collective who we believe are the right fit. We introduce you, you interview them, and then you choose who to work with. We're here throughout the process for any questions or additional support.
Every doula in the Baby Caravan collective has completed certified doula training, has documented birth and postpartum experience, and has been personally vetted by our team. Additionally all our doulas are CPR certified and have professional liability insurance. We only work with doulas we trust with our own families.
Birth doula packages in NYC typically range from $1,500 to $6,000+ depending on the doulas experience and what is included in their services package. Postpartum doula support is typically billed hourly, ranging from $45 to $85+ per hour depending on experience. Many families use employee benefits like Carrot, Progyny, or Maven to offset the cost. Additionally some families use tax-advantaged accounts such as an HSA or FSA to pay for doula services. Over two-thirds of our doulas are eligible to work with these providers. If cost is a barrier, we can also connect you with sliding scale options.
Absolutely yes. A doula and a partner play completely different roles. A doula brings professional training, calm experience, and a knowledge base your partner simply can't have — and frees your partner to be fully emotionally present rather than trying to remember what they read in a birth class. Many of our families say their doula was as valuable for their partner as for them.
