Yes- many breastfeeding families use overnight doulas very successfully. Your doula can bring your baby to you for nursing sessions, support you through the feed, and then take the baby back to settle and sleep while you rest in between.
It varies widely based on need and budget. Some families use overnight support every night in the first two weeks and taper from there. Others use two or three nights per week for a longer period. We can help you think through what makes the most sense for your situation
A postpartum doula trained in overnight care brings the full scope of postpartum support: newborn care, feeding guidance, parent education, and emotional support in addition to covering the overnight hours. The focus is on your whole family's wellbeing, not just infant care
Typical overnight shifts run from approximately 10pm to 6am (to be determined by you and your doula). Your doula arrives and you have time to check in and ask any questions you might have about infant care, your postpartum recovery or anything else that’s on your mind about the transition into new parenthood. Then you do a brief handoff, and you sleep. In the morning, they walk you through the night feeds, diapers, and any notable moments, and then you take it from there.
