Birth & Postpartum Doula
Kayla’s path to birth work began with her first pregnancy, when she realized that so much about pregnancy, birth, and postpartum isn’t openly talked about. As she searched high and low for quality information, she discovered Evidence Based Birth®, took childbirth education classes, and eventually found her own doula. Navigating that process with her partner and experiencing firsthand how valuable it was to have both education and meaningful support first sparked her passion for doula work. Her experience continued into postpartum, where her own experience with a Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorder and the journey that followed deepened her understanding of just how important compassionate support can be through the entire transition to parenthood. As a mom of three, former nanny and avid birth podcast listener she brings her personal experiences and a deep appreciation for how different every family’s journey can be to each client relationship.
Kayla’s work is centered on the belief that birth can unfold in many ways. She strives to help her clients to look back on their births and feel that they were heard, respected, supported, and an active participant in the way their baby came earthside. She especially loves supporting clients who feel strongly about their choices and brings that same enthusiasm to whatever path feels right for each family. Kayla focuses on being a grounding presence especially in challenging moments: reminding clients when possible that they can slow down, ask questions and get curious about their options. She also feels passionately about caring for partners and other support people through their own transition so they can feel confident, cared for, and present for the person they love.
Kayla completed her foundational training with Carriage House Birth and continues to expand her knowledge through ongoing mentorship and education with Manhattan Birth. Her additional training includes becoming an Integrative Lactation and Feeding Specialist, along with continued education in areas such as babywearing, Comforting Touch, perinatal mental health and other areas that strengthen the practical care she provides through the perinatal period. Outside of birth work, Kayla is a wife, mom of dogs and tiny humans, a nature enthusiast, and an avid reader who is equally happy hiking and exploring somewhere new or curled up under a blanket with her Kindle.
