She/They

Birth Doula
Kami (she/they) became a birth doula when she finally listened to the voice inside her that believes transformations are a central part of this planet’s rhythm. Kami wasn’t entirely sure what she was doing when she joined her first training, other than attempting to become her local role models who all suspiciously happened to be doulas. Within the first moments of the session Kami remembered begging their mom to let them hold their elderly dog's paw as she was given medicine to transition her out of her living body. She remembered the countless times she had jumped into action when a loved one experienced pain or suffering. The thought occurred to Kami that perhaps they had been some sort of doula for their whole life.
Today, Kami’s background in dance and advocacy has forged their practice into one that values liberation and safety. Kami’s Spinning Babies training allows her to help ease unnecessary discomfort that disrupts a person from feeling safe enough to experience their birth in the way they are naturally inclined to. If those natural rhythms feel inaccessible, she considers it her job to guide birthing people back to their body and pool of knowledge within it. Kami’s practice will always be grounded in providing anti-racist, queer and trans-affirming, cost-accessible care because everyone deserves to feel empowered to make decisions about their birth. Kami’s trauma-informed advocacy training lives at the center of their care, reminding Kami to show up prepared to find out what “feeling safe” means to each individual person.
Kami calls her practice The Cosmic Birth because she believes in the expansive power of the universe. Birth, similar to the universe, is full of uncertainty and power, two things which can often feel positioned against one another. It’s Kami’s belief, that when we accept uncertainty, we tap into an extraordinary power that calls upon our instincts to find deep trust in ourselves. Kami loves being a birth doula because it allows her to support the everyday transformations happening on this planet by leaning into the unique strength of each individual person.
