Parental Leave Planning for Self-Employed People

With Jen Mayer, Founder of Baby Caravan + Fully Funded

When you’re your own boss, the thought of stepping away from your business for even a moment can feel impossible. From the day-to-day tasks to long term project planning and managing clients on top of that, it’s easy to feel like you can’t be replaced and even harder to imagine someone else being able to fill your shoes in your absence.

Hi, my name is Jen and I work with clients one-on-one just like you, to guide you through the steps of carving time away from your business so you can bond with your baby. I bring my years of experience as a self-employed business owner, a former doula of 15 years who's helped hundreds of families through the transition of new parenthood, and being a mom of two. Having planned two maternity leaves myself, I'm here to help you create your own, self-funded parental leave.

Parental Leave Planning is for you if …

  • You’re currently pregnant and in your second, or third trimester; or adopting

  • You weren’t able to take a parental leave following a previous birth/adoption and want to do it differently this time

  • Your want to give yourself the gift of taking a full financial quarter or more to bond with your baby

  • You want someone by your side guiding you along the way

Ways working with a Parental Leave Planning Coach can help…

-Have the guidance and support of a coach who’s been in your shoes, twice!

  • A typical session includes some pre-session preparation items so we can make the most use of our time together. We'll start with a check in and see how your pregnancy is going. We'll then talk about your goal for the session. I like to mix in coaching with educational content, and then spend some time working on strategy together. You'll leave each session with a list of action steps to keep your parental leave planning project moving forward

  • Yes! Government websites can be hard to navigate so if you live in a state with a paid family leave insurance fund, I’m happy to offer support as you apply for those programs. I am not employed by the state and cannot fill out applications on your behalf, but I’m available for any questions you might have.
