Anna's bio

Anna believes that a thriving family is bedrock for everything we hold dear, individually and collectively. She knows that the requirements for family thriving are simple, a pleasure to provide and receive even, but somewhat lost in many families’ traditions. Through her work with families, her studies, and her own experiences, she has come to appreciate how multi-dimensional the transition to parenthood is, and how abundant loving care and attention can make a tremendous difference to all involved.

She completed birth and postpartum doula training through Doulas of North America in 2012. In 2013 she became a certified lactation counselor through the Academy of Lactation Policy and Practice. She has attended over 130 births in hospitals, homes, and birthing centers throughout New York City, plus several births virtually (even before Covid 19!). From 2013-2016 she was a volunteer full-spectrum doula with the Doula Project. She has also volunteered with the Mothers' Milk Bank of Austin, Texas, mixing and packaging donated milk for local NICU babies! She is a certified INNATE Postpartum Care provider.

She holds a BFA in dance from SUNY Purchase and was a professional dancer for 13 years. She is a mother of two forces of nature. Her own two births, and especially her own two postpartum experiences, have been deeply transformative, eye opening and life altering. She loves art, music, trees, pollinators, cooking, quiet, books, podcasts, rugs, tea, bicycling, the beach, sunshine and rain storms.

 What Others Are Saying

Anna was a calm, serene and devoted presence throughout my labor, helping to make the process (even with a last minute transfer to the hospital) a peaceful and spiritual event for both myself and my partner. She "read" me extremely well, and seemed to anticipate what I needed at every moment, from hydration to soothing touch to soothing my partner. Giving birth was the most profound experience of my life, and Anna supported and enriched that experience from my pregnancy to holding my amazing newborn baby in my arms.

It’s hard to find the words to convey just how integral you were to the process. Much of it is foggy but we’ve got photos that remind us of your constant, calm and supportive presence. While the birth didn’t go as we had hoped, there were many moments of beauty throughout those days and so much of that is thanks to you. We feel immensely fortunate to have had your guidance and wisdom and resourcefulness to draw from as the hours (and days!) carried on as well as in the weeks leading up to and following her birth.

We couldn't have made a better choice for our family. The postpartum doula will be with you all through those sensitive, tough and amazing early days. I can't emphasize enough how wonderful it is to look back now with gratitude at the support Anna provided. Anna eased the transition into parenthood but also empowered us to become the parents we were ready to be–she is the best.”
