Maris is a certified Birth and Postpartum Doula and Childbirth Educator serving families throughout New York City. A writer in her pre-kids life, Maris holds a BA from Smith College and an MFA from Sarah Lawrence. She jumped into birthwork while pregnant with her second child in 2015. She was educated through DONA and Doula Trainings International and has pursued additional training in massage, acupressure and counter-pressure techniques specific to birth support. Her intention is to help clients feel calm, empowered and informed throughout pregnancy, birth and postpartum.

Maris enters each new relationship with her clients without judgment or expectation, but with warmth, understanding and a sense of humor. As a birth support person, Maris aims to help each family member remain present during their birth experience by employing natural pain management and relaxation techniques, communicating with hospital staff, facilitating productive conversations with medical providers, advising and caring for birth partners, and beyond. In her postpartum visits, Maris seeks to work herself out of a job by helping new parents prepare, troubleshoot, heal, rest and enjoy their new babies.

Maris loves connecting with and bearing witness to expectant and new parents during these times of profound transformation in their lives. She is passionate about supporting all parents, including non-traditional and/or LGBTQIA+ families. Her experience includes accompaniment through home births, unmedicated hospital births, inductions, cesarean births, high risk births, VBACs, twin births and more.

A native New Yorker, Maris lives in Brooklyn with her family and spends a lot of time building lego train stations and listening to nonsensical jokes.
