Jenny, Postpartum Doula and CLC
Jenny Lawlor-Nigro is a DONA International-certified postpartum doula and certified lactation counselor. She graduated from Vassar College where she studied Sociology and Hispanic Studies. Prior to becoming a doula, Jenny was a domestic violence advocate and then a NYC nanny. Her interest in holistic birth support led her to doula work and then lactation support. To better support families in the postpartum period, she trained with Healthy Children following standards set by the World Health Organization to become a certified lactation counselor. She has continued her lactation support education as an aspiring International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) under the tutelage of mentors in both private practice and at Jamaica Hospital in Queens, NY. In addition to her doula and lactation training, Jenny holds certifications in infant and child CPR and AED and First Aid and has completed workshops on caring for multiples, and comforting touch in the postpartum period. She is currently fulfilling education requirements with the goal of one day catching babies as a midwife.
Jenny is drawn to postpartum doula work because it allows her to work alongside the family as a unit during a wonderful time of growth and change. She feels that her work along the care continuum – from counselor to nanny to doula – has equipped her with the tools to support families during the “fourth trimester” period.
