Jenny, Postpartum Doula and CLC
Jenny Lawlor-Nigro is a DONA International-trained Postpartum Doula and Certified Lactation Counselor living in Riverdale in the Bronx. She graduated from Vassar College with a degree in Sociology, which led her to the social services field. She worked for several years in the domestic violence service provision, first as a legislative advocate at the state level, and then as a case manager for survivors with co-occurring child welfare issues.
Her interest in holistic birth support led her to eventually pursue doula work while she worked as a nanny for children from infancy to eight years old. To deepen her understanding of how best to support breastfeeding families, she trained with Healthy Families USA following standards set by the World Health Organization to become a certified lactation counselor. Jenny is drawn to postpartum doula work because it allows her to assist the family as a unit during a wonderful process of expansion and has a special interest in engaging older children with adjusting to home life with a new baby sibling. She feels that her work along the care continuum – from counselor to nanny to doula – has equipped her with the tools to support families during the “fourth trimester” period. Jenny holds certifications in infant/child CPR/AED and First Aid, as well as Zumba, Zumba Kids/Kids, Jr., and Zumbini.
